Dental Implants — What You Need to Know

What Are Dental Implants?

Dental implants are a permanent, natural-looking solution for replacing missing teeth.
They are designed to look, feel, and function like real teeth, allowing you to eat, speak, and smile with confidence.

At Smile Retreat, we use premium Straumann® implants and advanced digital planning to ensure long-term stability, comfort, and predictable results—whether you need a single implant or multiple replacements.

Every case is approached with precision, transparency, and long-term success in mind.

Am I a Candidate for Dental Implants?

You may be a good candidate for dental implants if you:

Are missing one or more teeth

Struggle with chewing or speaking comfortably

Have dentures that feel loose or unstable

Are in good general health

Even patients who have been told they are not candidates may still qualify thanks to modern techniques such as bone preservation and guided implant placement. Even patients previously told they were not candidates may still qualify with modern implant techniques.

I was nervous about traveling abroad for dental work, but Dr. Tabash and his team made the entire process clear, organized, and safe. It turned out to be one of the best decisions I’ve made for my dental health.

First let me state that I am a retired dentist with past practice in several states, including with the US Navy in CA, and in Mo and UT. I saw Dr Tabash in 2023 with several problems: two lower right missing teeth that required dental implants and a missing upper incisor that needed a bridge, as well as a poorly done crown on another upper lateral incisor that needed to be replaced to match the new bridge. All this treatment was done over a period of several days in his modern Escazu facility. Since he has his own dental laboratory on site this facilitated a seamless and quick experience. The quality and fit of the upper bridge was absolutely first rate. The two implants (which were restored 6 months later) were the highest quality on the market and I was actually surprised at the absence of significant pain after the implant procedure. I should also mention that the cost was around 1/3 of the price I would have paid here in NV. As a bonus, while we were in Costa Rica, my wife and I spent five days traveling the country visiting the beaches and rainforest. I certainly highly recommend Dr Tabash and his friendly staff where, by the way, a lack of Spanish was not a problem. My veneers were completed efficiently, and I was back home in 10 days. The quality of care exceeded what I had experienced in the U.S.

FAQ image

How much can I really save on dental implants in Costa Rica?

Many U.S. and Canadian patients have shared that their treatment in Costa Rica cost them 50–70% less compared to quotes back home — while receiving care from internationally certified specialists using Straumann® implants.

FAQ image

Is the quality of care really the same as in the U.S. or Canada?

✅ Absolutely. Every procedure is handled by board-certified specialists using U.S.-grade materials, cutting-edge technology, and international safety standards.
It’s the same quality — just without the $30K price tag.

FAQ image

How long will I need to stay in Costa Rica?

Most patients complete their treatment in just 5–10 days, depending on the procedure.
You’ll receive a clear, personalized timeline after your virtual consultation — so you can plan with confidence.

FAQ image

Is it safe to travel to Costa Rica for dental work?

🛡️ Absolutely. Costa Rica is one of the safest and most trusted destinations for dental and medical tourism in Latin America.

We’re located in Escazú, one of the country’s most secure and modern areas, with private clinics, international hospitals, restaurants and premium accommodations nearby. Plus we follow U.S. standards in every procedure.

FAQ image

Where will I stay during treatment?

We partner with trusted local hotels and recovery-friendly accommodations — all just minutes from our clinic in Escazú, one of Costa Rica’s safest and most modern areas.
Expect comfort, convenience, and affordable pricing throughout your stay.

FAQ image

How do I get from the airport to the clinic or hotel?

We’ve got it covered.
Your package includes airport pickup and local transportation to your hotel and clinic.

You’ll be welcomed upon arrival and guided every step of the way — no stress, no confusion.

FAQ image

What type of anesthesia or sedation is used?

We use local anesthesia for most procedures, just like in the U.S. — so you’ll be awake but feel no pain.
For longer treatments or nervous patients, conscious sedation is also available. You'll remain relaxed and monitored by a trained professional the entire time.

FAQ image

What’s the recovery process like after implants or surgery?

Recovery depends on your specific procedure, but most patients experience minor swelling and mild discomfort for a few days.
You’ll be able to eat soft foods, rest comfortably, and even enjoy Costa Rica during your recovery.
We provide full aftercare instructions, follow-up support, and can coordinate with your local dentist back home if needed.

FAQ image

Can I use my own X-rays or dental scans?

Yes! If you’ve had a recent panoramic X-ray or 3D scan (CBCT), just send it to us before your consultation.
It helps us give you a faster, more accurate treatment plan — and may reduce the need for additional scans when you arrive.
If you don’t have recent scans, don’t worry — we’ll take care of everything here with advanced imaging.
